From all the created entities, Allah Ta’ala has afforded some with special virtue and importance over others.
From all living creatures, it is mankind that has been blessed with the highest position and has been made the paragon of Allah Ta’ala’s creation. From all of mankind, it is the Ambiyaa (alayhimus salaam) who have been blessed with the highest status and the most distinguished position over others.
From the twelve months of the Islamic calender, special sanctity and sacredness has been afforded to the month of Ramadhaan as well as the four sacred months i.e. Zul Qa’dah, Zul Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab. Likewise, among the days of the Islamic year, the day of Jumuah (Friday), Aashura, the 9th Zul Hijjah and the two Eids have been blessed with exclusive virtues and immense blessings.
In the same manner, from all the different places in the world, Allah Ta’ala has divinely selected the three Harams (i.e. Musjidul Haraam in Makkah Mukarramah, Musjidun Nabawi in Madinah Munawwarah and Musjidul Aqsa in Palestine) with the highest rank over the rest of the world.
After the three harams, Allah Ta’ala has blessed the masaajid – the houses of Allah Ta’ala on earth – and made them the greatest powerhouses of Hidaayah (guidance) and blessings.
Each believer has a right which he owes to the musjid. He should honour the musjid, uphold its sanctity, assist in its preservation, maintenance and upkeep, and wherever he may be residing, he should attend the musjid for the congregational salaahs and jumu’ah salaah.
This book briefly discusses the history of the three Harams and the significance that they hold in Islam, as well as the rights of all masaajid.
