The Sacrifice of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)

Hazrat Faatimah’s (radhiyallahu ‘anha) house was a distance away from the house of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once said to her, “It is my desire that you live near me.” Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) replied, “Haarithah’s house is close to your house. If you ask him to exchange his house with mine, he will happily accept.” Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “He has already exchanged once on my request. I feel shy to request him a second time.”

However, Hazrat Haarithah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) somehow came to know that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was desirous that Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) live close to him. He at once came to Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and said, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), I have come to know that you wish for Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) to live near you. Here are my houses at your disposal. No other house is closer to yours than these houses of mine. Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) can have her house exchanged with any of my houses. O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), what you accept from me is dearer to me than what you leave for me.”

Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) accepted the offer saying, “I know that you are sincere in what you say”, and Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) made dua for him. (At-Tabaqaatul Kubra 8/19)
