Q: A person purchased an item for resale purposes but thereafter cancelled his intention. After some time, he decided to once again sell the item. Will zakaat be waajib on the item?
A: Zakaat will not be waajib upon the item. However, zakaat will be waajib upon the money received after selling the item.
( لا يبقى للتجارة ما ) أي عبد مثلا ( اشتراه لها فنوى ) بعد ذلك ( خدمته ثم ) ما نواه للخدمة ( لا يصير للتجارة ) وإن نواه لها ما لم يبعه بجنس ما فيه الزكاة (شامى 2/272)
