The Successor of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

Hadhrat Jubair bin Mut’im (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that a woman once came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and consulted with Nabi (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) regarding a certain matter. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) counselled her and gave her advice. (Before leaving) she asked Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam): “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), in the future if I have to come to Madina Tayyiba for guidance and I do not find you present?” (i.e. if you have already passed away, then who should I go to for guidance?) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “If you do not find me present, then go to Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu).”
