Duas When Drinking Zam-zam

Dua One

When one drinks Zam-zam, one should recite the following dua:

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا وَشِفَاءً مِّنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ

O Allah! I ask You for beneficial knowledge, expansive sustenance, and shifaa (cure) from every ailment.

عن عكرمة قال: كان ابن عباس إذا شرب من زمزم قال: اللهم إني أسألك علما نافعا ورزقا واسعا وشفاء من كل داء (سنن الدارقطني، الرقم: 2738)

Hazrat Ikrimah (rahimahullah) reports that when Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbaas (radhiyallahu anhuma) would drink Zam-zam, he would recite the following dua:

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا وَشِفَاءً مِّنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ

Dua Two

When one drinks Zam-zam, one should recite the following dua:

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَشْرَبُهُ لِظَمَأِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

“O Allah! I am drinking it for the thirst of the Day of Qiyaamah (i.e. I am drinking it while beseeching You to save me from the dreadful thirst of that day).”

عن ابن عيينة قال قال عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه اللهم إني أشربه لظمأ يوم القيامة (تاريخ دمشق، الرقم: 5255)

Hazrat ibnu Uyaynah (rahimahullah) reports that Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu anhu) would recite the following dua (when drinking Zam-zam):

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَشْرَبُهُ لِظَمَأِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
