Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned, “Indeed, the one who takes care of my wives after my demise is a true and pious person.”
After the demise of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would regularly spend upon the Azwaaj Mutahharaat (the respected wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)). Similarly, when they undertook the journey of Hajj, Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan and Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) would go out of their way to ensure that the Azwaaj Mutahharaat were comfortable.
Before travelling, Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would prepare the carriages in which the Azwaaj Mutahharaat would travel. He would place large green shawls over the carriages (out of honour and respect for the Azwaaj Mutahharaat).
Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would announce (to the other travellers) that no man should come close to these carriages or look in them.
Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would walk in front of the animals upon which the carriages of the Azwaaj Mutahharaat (radhiyallahu ‘anhun) were placed and Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would walk behind. If any male came close, they would immediately say to him, “Move away from the carriages! Move away from the carriages!”
During the journey, when the caravan of travellers would halt at any place, Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would ensure that the animals transporting the Azwaaj Mutahharaat (radhiyallahu ‘anhun) would halt at the higher end of the valley, away from the rest of the caravan. Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf and Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) would then set up camp at the lower end of the valley (to guard the Azwaaj Mutahharaat and ensure that no male goes close to them).
