The Generosity of Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Miswar bin Makhramah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports:

Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) once sold a vineyard to Hazrat Uthman (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) for forty thousand dinars.

When Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) received the money from Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), he immediately distributed it among the blessed wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), the Muhaajireen, the people of his tribe – the Banu Zuhrah, as well as the poor Muslims.

Miswar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) mentioned: “I went to Aaishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) (to give her the money which Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had allotted for her).

When I handed the money over to her, she asked, ‘Who sent this wealth for me?’ I replied, ‘Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf. She said, ‘Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “Only those servants who will remain steadfast (upon deen and acts of piety and generosity) will show you kindness after my demise.”

Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) then made the same dua for Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) which Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) made for him during his lifetime, “May Allah bless Ibnu Awf (referring to Abdur Rahmaan bin Awf) with the honour of drinking from the Salsabeel stream in Jannah.”’

Note: 40 thousand Dinaars is worth approximately 200 million rands today.
