Prior to Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) marrying Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), she had been married to Abu Haalah. Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) had two children from him whose names were Hind and Haalah. Thereafter, Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) married Ateeq bin Aa’iz and had one daughter from him whose name was Hind. (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/363-364, Isaabah 8/109)
After Ateeq bin Aa’iz passed away, Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) remained a widow for some years, after which she married Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and Allah Ta‘ala blessed her with four daughters and two sons from him.
All the children of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) were born from Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), with the exception of Hazrat Ebrahim (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Hazrat Ebrahim (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was the son of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) born from Hazrat Maariyah Qibtiyyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), the slave of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
From all the respected wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) is the only wife who was blessed with the privilege and honour of being the mother of all the children of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/316, 345)
During the lifetime of Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) did not marry any other woman. It was only after her demise, in the 10th year after nubuwwah, that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) married Hazrat Saudah binte Zam’ah (radhiyallahu ‘anha). Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was fifty years old at that time. (Istee’aab 4/1819, Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/378)
After marrying Hazrat Saudah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) married Hazrat Aishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) on the command of Allah Ta‘ala. (Sunan Tirmizi #3880, Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/387)
Though Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) married Hazrat Aishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) before the hijrah, she only began staying with him three years later when he migrated to Madinah Munawwarah, in the first year of the hijrah. She was nine years old at that time. (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/382)
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) married all his other wives after making hijrah to Madinah Munawwarah.
The following are the daughters of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) who were born from Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha):
- Hazrat Zainab (radhiyallahu ‘anha)
- Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha)
- Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anha)
- Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha)
The following are the sons of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) who were born from Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha):
- Hazrat Qaasim (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)
- Hazrat Abdullah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)
The first son of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to pass away was Hazrat Qaasim (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). He passed away when he was two years old. This was before Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) received nubuwwah. (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/316-317, Taareekh-ul-Islam 1/66, Al-Ishaarah pg. 94)
Thereafter, Hazrat Abdullah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) passed away in Makkah Mukarramah, after Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was bestowed with nubuwwah. (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/344))
As for the son of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Ebrahim (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), who was born from Hazrat Maariyah Qibtiyyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), then he passed away in the 8th year after hijrah, and he was approximately eighteen months old at that time. (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/350)
According to some Ulama of seerah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) also had two sons named Taahir and Tayyib. Hence, according to this opinion, all the sons of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) born from Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) totalled four in number; (1) Hazrat Qaasim (2) Hazrat Abdullah (3) Hazrat Taahir and (4) Hazrat Taayib
However, according to the preferred view of the Ulama, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) only had two sons (viz. Hazrat Qaasim and Hazrat Abdullah), and Taahir and Tayyib were not two separate sons of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), but were actually two titles of Abdullah, the son of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/313-316)
As for the respected daughters of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), they all lived till the time when Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) received nubuwwah, and they had all embraced Islam and performed hijrah with him to Madinah Munawwarah. (Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah 2/273)
Three of the daughters of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) passed away during his lifetime viz. Hazrat Zainab, Hazrat Ruqayyah and Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anhunna).
Hazrat Zainab (radhiyallahu ‘anha) passed away in the eighth year after the hijrah, Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) passed away in the second year after the hijrah, and Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anha) passed away in the ninth year after the hijrah. (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/318-327)
As far as Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) is concerned, then she passed away approximately six months after the demise of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). (Sharhuz Zurqaani 4/336)
Some Ulama have mentioned that there was an interval of one year between the birth of each one of Hazrat Khadeejah’s (radhiyallahu ‘anha) children. (Seerah Halabiyyah 3/433)
