Doing Good Solely for the Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala

Hadhrat Abu Umaamah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that on one occasion a man came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and asked: “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), what is the condition of that person who fights in the path of Allah Ta’ala for the sake of earning reward and gaining fame and recognition. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “There is no reward for him.” This Sahaabi repeated this question thrice and every time Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) gave the same reply. Thereafter Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “Certainly Allah Ta’ala only accepts those actions done with sincerity solely to earn His pleasure.

Receiving Seventy Rewards

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported, “Whoever sends salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once, Allah Ta‘ala and His angels will send seventy mercies and blessings upon him in return of his one Durood. Hence, whoever wishes to increase his Durood should increase it, and whoever wishes to decrease his Durood should decrease it (i.e. if he wants to earn great rewards, then he should increase his Durood).”
