The Importance of Bringing Deen Alive in the Womenfolk

Hazrat Moulana Inaamul Hasan Kaandhelwi (rahimahullah) once mentioned the following:

The physical world and its benefits are enjoyed by both men and women. Allah Ta‘ala created this world as a place where men and women live together. In the same way, the deeni and spiritual world and its benefits are also enjoyed by both men and women.

If any corruption and problem is found in one part of life, then this will impact on the other parts of life. (Therefore, just as men are making effort to improve their deeni lives, they will need to make effort on their women, in order for the worldly and deeni benefits to be enjoyed together in harmony.) Hence, it is imperative to make an effort upon women to bring righteous a’maal alive in them, such as performing salaah, making ta’leem, engaging in zikr and doing tilaawat of the Qur’aan Majeed daily.

For this purpose, the men of the locality should make mashwarah among themselves and try to arrange a gathering for women where they will be encouraged to carry out these righteous deeds.

However, all this should be done within the parameters of Shariah which Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) has commanded his ummah (i.e. to uphold purdah and not break any law of Shariah at any time).

A few people from a certain locality asked us permission that they do not want to do this (i.e. arrange a program for the women within the homes), saying to us that once women come out of their homes, they will go to cinemas, and we do not know where else they will go to!

I mentioned to them:

At present, they are doing far worse things when leaving their homes. However, if we become negligent and do not utilize the correct means of guiding them, then deen will not remain and people will only worry about their dunya.

The Fuqahaa have mentioned that the gathering of women is seldom free of some-and-some wrong.

Therefore, the jamaat workers, who have concern for the women’s deeni condition, should set up a program for the women within some of the Muslims’ homes where they should teach them these important aspects of deen.

If a jamaat of women are going anywhere within 3 miles, or even if they are going anywhere within 1 mile – then each woman should be accompanied to-and-fro by her mahram when moving from place-to-place.

After the mashwarah is decided, then each of the women who come out in jamaat should be accompanied by her mahram – such a mahram who will be able to give her the correct thinking and deeni understanding, and will be able to protect her from getting involved in wrong actions and wrong habits, thereby ensuring that no law of Shariah is violated during this period.
