Ihyaaud Deen An Effort to Revive Deen in Totality
Hazrat Moulana Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (rahimahullah) was the Shaikh (spiritual mentor) of Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed Sahaaranpuri (rahimahullah). Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed (rahimahullah) would show a great amount of respect to his Shaikh as well as his children. After the demise of his Shaikh, Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed (rahimahullah) would be concerned regarding the deeni and worldly welfare of his Shaikh’s children.
After the demise of Hazrat Moulana Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (rahimahullah), the family had delayed in winding and distributing the estate, whereas winding and distributing the estate of the deceased is compulsory upon the family and should not be delayed. Delaying in this is not permissible in Shari’ah.
When Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed Sahaaranpuri (rahimahullah) learnt of this, he was greatly concerned, and said to the daughter of Hazrat Moulana Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (rahimahullah), “Why do you not ask your brother, Hakeem Mas’ood, to give you your share of the inheritance?”
She replied, “I feel shy to ask my brother for the money. I do have sufficient money with me which Allah Ta‘ala has granted me. Even if I do not receive my share of the inheritance, it is fine, as I do not need it.”
To this, Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed Sahaaranpuri (rahimahullah) said, “Since you do have the wealth, then haj is fardh upon you.” Hearing this, she asked her brother, Hakeem Mas’ood, for her share of the inheritance, and he then gave it to her.
Thereafter, Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed Sahaaranpuri (rahimahullah) came to her brother, Hakeem Mas’ood, and said to him, “You should also get ready to go for haj (as you possess the financial means and haj is also fardh upon you).” Hakeem Mas’ood replied, “I have set aside and kept the money which I collected as fees from my Hindu patients. Once the Hijaaz railway commences, then I will use that money to travel and go for haj (at that time, it was well known among the people that the Saudi government was intending to construct a railway line till Hijaaz).”
Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed Sahaaranpuri (rahimahullah) reprimanded him saying, “Our Hazrat (referring to Hakeem Mas’ood’s father) has written that the person who delays performing his haj after it becomes fardh – he is a faasiq (an open sinner)! Do you have complete certainty that you will live until the railway is constructed to perform your haj?”
Hakeem Mas’ood became very angry when he heard this reprimand and said, “Moulana Kaleel has called me a faasiq!” Nevertheless, this reprimand of Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed Sahaaranpuri (rahimahullah) had an impact on him and he went for haj that year.
After completing the haj, when he returned to India, he mentioned to certain people, “Alhamdulillah! Among our group of Ulama, there are people who are such that if we move off the straight path, then they immediately caution us and bring us back onto the straight path.”
It was well known among all that Hazrat Moulana Khaleel Ahmed Sahaaranpuri (rahimahullah) was like an unsheathed sword in establishing the haq and upholding the sunnah from among all the followers of Hazrat Moulana Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (rahimahullah).
