The Investment which Gives Perpetual Profits and Returns

Hazrat Moulana Inaamul Hasan Kaandhelwi (rahimahullah) once mentioned the following:

One type of effort and investment is such that its benefits are temporary and continue for a short while. Another type of effort and investment is such that its benefits continue forever. Intelligence demands that one engages in the second type of effort whose benefits are perpetual.

All worldly efforts are such that their benefits are temporary, and with death, they come to an end. When a person passes away, his position of kingship, or any other worldly position or post ceases and does not continue further. None of these things can protect one from death.

Fir’aun would say, “Egypt is my kingdom. The river Nile flows by my command.” However, at the time when he was dying, he said, “There is no god besides Allah.”

On the contrary, the outcome of the second type of effort is such that it continues to benefit one forever. Hence, one should choose and give preference to this second type of effort. This second type of effort is the effort of imaan. Its benefit is such that it will always remain with one. It will continue to assist one (in this world and the next), and it will be the means for one to acquire the divine pleasure of Allah Ta‘ala (in this world and the next).
