Allah Ta‘ala Causing the Plan of the Quraish to Fail

Allah Ta‘ala Causing the Plan of the Quraish to Fail

In the beginning days of Islam, the Quraish were the enemies of Islam and the Muslims. They hated Islam and tried their best to stop people from becoming Muslims. If any person became a Muslim, they would trouble him and try to hurt him to make him leave Islam. However, even though the Quraish were troubling the Muslims, more and more people were accepting Islam every day.

This made the Quraish angry and worried. They were worried that the days of haj were coming. In these days, people from all the different lands will come to Makkah Mukarramah for haj and to visit the Ka’bah Shareef. The Quraish were worried that when these people come to Makkah Mukarramah, then they will meet Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and they may accept Islam.

The Quraish did not want these people visiting Makkah Mukarramah to listen to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and so the Quraish had a meeting where they sat together and thought of different ways that they could stop the people from meeting Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and listening to the message of Islam.

The Quraish sat with Waleed bin Mugheerah, who was one of their seniors and leaders. They said to him that they should all make up a false story about Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to show the people that he is a bad person and that nobody should listen to him. When people enter Makkah Mukarramah, the Quraish will meet them and tell them this false story about Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to warn them that they must not meet him or listen to him.

Waleed asked them what story they wanted to make up about Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to show that he is a bad person. Some of the Quraish said that they should say that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is a fortune teller who tries to tell the future and cannot be trusted. However, Waleed knew that this plan would not work, because the blessed speech of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was most pure and it did not sound anything like the speech of fortune tellers.

Some of the Quraish then said that they should tell the people that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is a madman. However, Waleed knew that this plan also would not work, because Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was the most intelligent person and did not appear to be mad in any way at all.

Some of the Quraish then said that they should tell the people that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is just a poet speaking poetry – and he is not the Rasul of Allah Ta‘ala. Others said that they should tell the people that he is a magician who does magic.

Waleed knew that these were not good suggestions, as Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would recite the Qur’aan Majeed to people when inviting them towards Islam, and the beautiful Qur’aan Majeed did not sound like poetry. Rather, the sweetness and attraction of the words of the Qur’aan Majeed were such that people could not resist his invitation and would eagerly accept Islam.

Similarly, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) did not behave like magicians behave when doing magic. Therefore, he knew that this plan also would not work.

Finally, Waleed said to the Quraish, “All your suggestions are false, and they are not good suggestions. However, because we do not have any better story to tell the people, we will lie and tell them that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is a magician, and he uses magic to break families apart and make people fight. In this way, people will think that he is a bad man and they will not want to meet him or listen to his message.”

Thereafter, when the days of haj came, men of the Quraish stood on all the roads leading to Makkah Mukarramah. As the travellers from other lands passed them, they would warn them that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is a magician and they must not meet him or listen to his message.

However, Allah Ta‘ala made it such that even though the Quraish did this, many people still met Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), listened to his message and accepted Islam.

From this, we learn that no matter what other people are doing against Islam and the Muslims, we must do our work which is to keep Islam strong in our lives and the lives of all the Muslims. If we try to do this, Allah Ta‘ala will help us and He will assist us against those who want to destroy Islam.
