Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) Fulfilling the Mission of Allah Ta‘ala

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) Fulfilling the Mission of Allah Ta‘ala

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was commanded by Allah Ta‘ala to invite people towards the deen of Islam. When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would go to the people, he would tell them that Allah Ta‘ala is the One and only god, and there is no god besides Him. They must worship Allah Ta‘ala alone and must stop worshipping idols.

The Quraish of Makkah Mukarramah were idol worshippers. They did not want to accept Islam, and they did not want other people to accept Islam. When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) began to tell people that they should not worship idols, the Quraish became angry and upset with him. They wanted to fight with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and they wanted him to stop speaking against their idols, but his uncle, Abu Taalib, would protect him against their harm. Abu Taalib was an important man who was respected by everyone in Makkah Mukarramah.

One day, a few people from the Quraish came to Abu Taalib and said to him, “Your nephew, Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), speaks against our idols. He tells people that our religion of worshipping idols is wrong, and he says that our forefathers were wrong in worshipping idols. You should either stop him from saying such things, or you should stop protecting him so that we can stop him ourselves.”

Abu Taalib heard what they said, but still he did not stop Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) from inviting towards Allah Ta‘ala and speaking against idol worship.

The Quraish then became even more angry. They came to Abu Taalib again and said, “We know that you are a noble person and we respect you, but we will never accept that any person speaks against our idols, and that our forefathers are called people who were on the wrong religion. Either stop your nephew, Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), or we will fight him until one of us will be killed.” Saying this, the Quraish went away.

Abu Taalib was then worried about what the Quraish might do to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and he was worried that he would not be able to protect Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). He came to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and told him what the Quraish had said.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “O my uncle! Even if the Quraish place the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand and ask me to stop this mission that Allah Ta‘ala has given me, I will never do so. I will continue this mission until Allah Ta‘ala causes Islam to spread in the world or until I lose my life for this deen.”

In other words, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was saying that whether the Quraish threatened to harm him, or they promised to give him money, wealth and a high position, no matter what happened – he would never ever leave out the mission that Allah Ta‘ala had given him.

When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said this, and Abu Taalib saw how determined he was to carry out the mission of spreading Islam, then he said to him, “O my beloved nephew! Continue with your mission of calling people to Allah Ta‘ala, and I will never stop protecting you!”

From this incident, we see that the most important thing for Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was the deen of Islam and making Allah Ta‘ala happy. The Quraish were his enemies and wanted to harm him, but he continued his mission. He did not worry about the people – he only worried about making Allah Ta‘ala happy.

We also should make sure that at all times, we make Allah Ta‘ala happy by fulfilling His commands and staying away from all evil, sins and haraam. If we continue to make Allah Ta‘ala happy, then He will protect us and He will help us in such a way that no one will be able to harm us.
