Beliefs regarding the Prophets (alaihimus salaam)

  1. Allah Ta‘ala sent many Ambiyaa (prophets) to the world to guide mankind to the straight.[1]
  2. Prophethood is bestowed by the divine selection of Allah Ta‘ala. Allah Ta‘ala selects from His servants whomsoever He wishes for this great mission. Prophethood cannot be earned by any person through his own actions and effort.[2]
  3. A Prophet who was given a separate book and Shari’ah is called a Rasul. A prophet who was not given a separate book and Shari’ah, but was commanded to follow the book and Shari’ah of a previous Rasul, is called a Nabi.[3]
  4. The prophets are the most obedient of all Allah Ta‘ala’s servants. They will never disobey Allah Ta‘ala at any time.[4]
  5. All the Ambiyaa (alaihimus salaam) are divinely protected by Allah Ta‘ala from committing sins. Hence, all the Ambiyaa (alaihimus salaam) are completely sinless.[4]
  6. The total number of the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam) is known to Allah Ta‘ala alone. We bring Imaan in all the prophets of Allah Ta‘ala, whatever their number may be.
  7. As a sign of the nabi’s prophethood, Allah Ta‘ala allows the nabi to carry out certain mu’jizaat (miracles). However, it should be understood that the nabi is a human being, and he is unable to perform miracles of his own accord. It is only through the divine permission and with the divine help of Allah Ta‘ala that miracles are performed at the hands of the nabi.
  8. The first prophet is Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam), and the final prophet is Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). All the other Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam) came between these two prophets.
  9. Some of the well known Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam) whose names are recorded in the Quraan Majeed and Mubaarak Ahaadith are: Nabi Nooh (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Ishaaq (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Ismail (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Ya’qoob (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Yusuf (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Dawood (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Sulaimaan (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Ayyoob (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Moosa (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Haaroon (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Zakariyya (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Yahya (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Ilyaas (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Al-Yasa’ (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Yunus (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Loot (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Idrees (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Zul Kifl (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Saalih (‘alaihis salaam), Nabi Hood (‘alaihis salaam), and Nabi Shu’aib (‘alaihis salaam).
  10. Before Qiyaamah, Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) will be sent to kill Dajjaal. The nubuwwah of Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) will not be cancelled. He will be sent to assist the Ummah of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and he will follow the Shari’ah of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). At that time, while he will be in the world, he will receive wahi through which he will assist the Ummah against the forces of baatil (falsehood).
