Duaas Upon Awakening

Duaa One:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي رَدَّ إِلَيَّ نَفْسِي وَلَمْ يُمِتْهَا فِي مَنَامِهَا، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يُمْسِكُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ أَنْ تَزُولَا وَلَئِنْ زَالَتَا إنْ أمْسَكَهُمَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِه إنَّهُ كَانَ حَليِمًا غَفُورًا ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يُمْسِكُ السَّمَاءَ أَنْ تَقَعَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِه إنَّ اللهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَؤُوفٌ رَّحِيم

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who returned my soul to me and did not cause it to die in its sleep. All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who withholds the heavens and the earth from moving. And if they should move, no one has the ability to hold them in place after Him (Allah Ta’ala). Indeed, He is Forbearing, Forgiving. All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who withholds the sky from falling on the earth except by His leave. Surely Allah is Most Kind and Most Merciful to man.

عن جابر رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: إذا أوى الرجل إلى فراشه ابتدره ملك وشيطان، فيقول الملك: اختم بخير، ويقول الشيطان: اختم بشر، فإن ذكر الله ثم نام، بات الملك يكلؤه، فإذا استيقظ قال الملك: افتح بخير، وقال الشيطان: افتح بشر، فإن قال: الحمد لله الذي رد إلي نفسي ولم يمتها في منامها، الحمد لله الذي يمسك السموات والأرض أن تزولا (إلى آخر الآية)، الحمد لله الذي يمسك السماء أن تقع على الأرض إلا بإذنه (إلى آخر الآية)، فإن وقع من سريره فمات دخل الجنة. (السنن الكبرى للنسائى رقم 10624)

Hadhrat Jaabir (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “When a person retires to bed, then an angel and a shaytaan both come to him. Then the angel makes dua for him saying: “May your end (of the day) be upon good.” (i.e. may you do good deeds before you retire to bed) And the shaytaan says: “May your end be upon evil.” (i.e. May you do evil deeds before you retire to bed).  If he remembers Allah Ta’ala and thereafter falls off to sleep, the angel spends the night protecting him and safeguarding him from any type of evil. Then when he wakes up, the angel makes dua for him saying: “May your beginning (the day) be upon good.” And the shaytaan says: “May your beginning (the day) be upon evil.” If upon awakening he recites the following Duaa, then falls from his bed and passes away, he will enter Paradise.”

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي رَدَّ إِلَيَّ نَفْسِي وَلَمْ يُمِتْهَا فِي مَنَامِهَا، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يُمْسِكُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ أَنْ تَزُولَا وَلَئِنْ زَالَتَا إنْ أمْسَكَهُمَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِه إنَّهُ كَانَ حَليِمًا غَفُورًا ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يُمْسِكُ السَّمَاءَ أَنْ تَقَعَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِه إنَّ اللهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَؤُوفٌ رَّحِيم

ورواه الحاكم أبو عبد الله الحافظ ، وزاد في آخره : الحمد لله الذي يحيي الموتى وهو على كل شيء قدير

Duaa Two:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala who granted us life after death and to Him is our return.

عن حذيفة رضي الله عنه قال كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا أخذ مضجعه من الليل وضع يده تحت خده ثم يقول اللهم باسمك أموت وأحيا وإذا استيقظ قال الحمد لله الذي أحيانا بعد ما أماتنا وإليه النشور. (بخارى رقم 6314 )

Hadrat Huzaifa (Radiallahu anhu) reports that when retiring to bed at night, Rasulullah (Salallahu alaihi wasallam) would place his (right) hand under his (right) cheek and would recite the duaa  اللهم باسمك اموت و احيى , and upon awakening would recite الحمد لله الذى احيانا بعد ما اماتنا واليه النشور

Duaa Three:

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِذَنْبِى وَأَسْأَلُكَ رَحْمَتَكَ اللَّهُمَّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا وَلاَ تُزِغْ قَلْبِى بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنِى وَهَبْ لِى مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

There is none worthy of worship besides You. Glory be to You, O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for my sins and I ask You for Your mercy. O Allah, increase me in knowledge and do not allow my heart to deviate after You have guided me and bestow upon me mercy from Your side, indeed You are the Granter of bounties..

عن عائشة رضى الله عنها أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا استيقظ من الليل قال لا إله إلا أنت سبحانك اللهم أستغفرك لذنبى وأسألك رحمتك اللهم زدنى علما ولا تزغ قلبى بعد إذ هديتنى وهب لى من لدنك رحمة إنك أنت الوهاب (ابو داود رقم 5063)

Hazrat Aaisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would recite the following Duaa upon awakening during the night:
