Do not Underestimate Anyone

On one occasion a Bedouin Sahabi entered the Musjid of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). He had the urge to relieve himself and due to being uneducated (with the injunctions of Islaam) he relieved himself in one corner of the Musjid. The Sahabah-e-Kiraam (Radhiallahu Anhum) were naturally enraged at this and immediately rushed towards this person rebuking him. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) taking charge of the situation instructed the Shaabah to clean the musjid by pouring water over the soiled area and thereafter addressed the Sahaabah in the following words:

إنَّمَا بُعِثتُم مُيَسِّرِين وَلَم تُبعَثُوا مُعَسِّرِين

Allah Ta’ala has sent you to the Ummah as a means of creating ease for them (through being kind and compassionate towards them) and you have not been sent as a means for creating difficulty for them (by being harsh and impolite towards them)

Thereafter, in a loving and compassionate manner Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) advised the Bedouin Sahabi with the following words:

إن هذه المساجد لا تصلح لشيء من هذا البول ولا القذر إنما هي لذكر الله عز وجل والصلاة وقراءة القرآن

“The Masaajid (houses of Allah Ta’ala) have not been created for the purpose of relieving oneself or soiling it with dirt. Instead it has been created for the remembrance of Allah, to perform Salaah and to recite the Qur’aan.”

The compassion and love Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) showed the Bedoiun was the turning point in his life. He became among the learned of the Shabaah. Later on during his life, recounting this incident, he mentioned to the people:

فقام النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى بأبى هو وأمى فلم يسب ولم يؤنب ولم يضرب

The Bedouin related: “May my parents be sacrificed for him. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) did not swear me nor rebuke me nor did he hit me” (Instead he explained to me in a most loving manner).

Note: From this understand that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) first educated the Ulama and learned of the Sahaabah before educating the unlearned person. (Musnad Ahmed & Mishkaat)
