Transformation From a Fruit to a Stone

Hadhrat Mufti Ilaahi Baksh Saheb (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) narrates the following incident:

From amongst the signs of Allah Ta’ala is that, once a beggar passed by a fruit orchard in Shah Jahaan Aabaad on the outskirts of Dehli. At that time, the fruits were almost ripe and ready to be plucked. The beggar asked the farmer for some fruit. The farmer frowned and said, “There are no fruits here, there are only stones, eat to your heart’s desire.” This statement had angered the beggar and in a state of rage and fury he uttered, “If these are stones then let it be.” After saying this he turned around and left. Suddenly the farmer’s gaze fell on some fruit, and to his utter amazement, all the fruit had transformed into stones. He fell into deep sorrow and remorse. However, it was too late now to feel remorseful. People were greatly surprised and shocked that these fruit had been transformed into stones. Nevertheless, these stones also reached the court of the king (Shah Aalam) of that era. The king had presented it to Hadhrat Shah Abdul Aziz Saheb (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). Mufti Ilaahi Baksh (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) says that I was also present at that time and personally witnessed it for myself. The outer form resembled the fruit, however it was no more than a stone (just like the artificial fruits that are on display today).

The Meat of Hadhrat Umme Salama (Radhiyallahu Anha)

On one occasion Hadhrat Umme Salamah (Radhiyallahu Anha) received some meat. She asked the attendant to keep the meat on the shelf so that when Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) comes home, Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) may partake of it. Just then a beggar came by, and while standing at the doorstep he shouted saying:” Give me something in the name of Allah Ta’ala, in return Allah Ta’ala will bless you with barakah.” The reply came from the house “And may Allah also give you blessings”. These words meant that there was nothing in the house that could be offered to the beggar. The beggar went away. Subsequently Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) entered the home and requested Hadhrat Umme Salamah (Radhiyallahu Anhha) for something to eat. Hadhrat Umme Salamah (Radhiyallahu Anha) immediately instructed the attendant to go to the shelf where the meat was kept and bring it, in order that she may present it before Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). To her utter surprise, when she reached the place where the meat was staying, she found there was no sign of the meat, instead there was a white stone in the same spot. When Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was informed of the reality, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) remarked that it is on account of not giving it to the beggar that the piece of meat turned into a stone.

Lesson: Hadhrat Thaanwi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) explains that due to not giving in the name of Allah Ta’ala this misfortune occurred that the meat was transformed into a stone. Hadhrat Thaanwi further explains that in the same way, a person who deceives the beggar yet eats himself is actually eating a stone. The result of this is that mercilessness and hard heartedness overcomes that heart. It is due to Allah Ta’ala showing kindness and mercy to the family of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), that He changed the meat into stone before their eyes, so that they may be saved from partaking of it.
