Ihyaaud Deen An Effort to Revive Deen in Totality
Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) participated in the battle of Badr as well as all the battles of Islam, fighting alongside Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). During the battle of Uhud, when the Muslims suffered a temporary defeat and some began to retreat in panic, Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) was from amongst those Sahaabah that remained steadfast defending Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and fighting for Islam.
On the occasion of the battle of Badr, the Sahaabah (Radhiallahu Anhum) had built a shelter for Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) to rest in. Before the battle commenced, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) persistently implored Allah Ta’ala in his duaa to send down His divine aid and bless the Muslims with victory. He raised his hands so high in Duaa that his shawl fell off his shoulders. Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) seeing the blessed shawl of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) fall off his mubaarak shoulders, immediately picked up the shawl, and placed it back on his shoulders. He pitied the condition of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), hence addressed him saying, “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), you have persisted in supplicating and begging Allah Ta’ala. Do not worry, surely Allah Ta’ala will answer your Duaa and fulfil what He has promised you.” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) thereafter sat down and rested for a short while. After a little while, he stood up addressing Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) in the following words, “Glad tidings, O Abu Bakr! The help of Allah Ta’ala has come to us. Here is Hadhrat Jibra’eel (Alaihis Salaam), who has been sent by Allah Ta’ala. He is holding the reins of his galloping horse, thereby causing the dust to fly about.” [1]
Hadhrat Ali (Radhiallahu Anhu) once addressed the people saying, “From all the Sahaabah, Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) was the bravest and most courageous. On the occasion of Badr, it was Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) who stood besides Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) defending him from the attack of the enemies. None of us could match him on that day.” [2]
Love for Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
During the battle of Badr, Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu)’s son, Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan, fought on the side of the disbelievers as he had not yet accepted Islam. Later, after embracing Islam, whilst seated with his father Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu), he exclaimed, “O my beloved father, during the battle of Badr, you came under my sword a few times. However, considering you being my father, I spared you.” Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) spontaneously retorted, “Had you only come under my sword during the battle, I would have never spared you, as you were fighting against Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” [3]
