It is mentioned that when Moulana Yusuf Kaandhelwi (rahimahullah), the Ameer of the Tableegh Jamaat after Moulana Ilyaas (rahimahullah), travelled to Lahore, for the purpose of Da’wat and Tableegh, his host decided to invite certain important people to attend the program and listen to the bayaan of Moulana Yusuf Saheb (rahimahullah).
Before the program, the host began to introduce the people who held government positions and others who were highly qualified in various fields. He said to Moulana Yusuf (rahimahullah), “This person is the judge of such-and-such high court in Pakistan, this person is a minister of affairs in Pakistan, this person is such-and-such, etc.”
Hazrat Moulana Muhammed Yusuf (rahimahullah) was not pleased at the manner in which this person was introducing the people and praising them over their worldly positions. Hence, Hazrat Moulana Muhammed Yusuf (rahimahullah) said, “During the blessed era of Islam, when people would be introduced, then they would be introduced by explaining the great service they rendered to Islam, or the great sacrifice they made for deen, or the battles they participated in such as the Battle of Badr, etc.”
In other words, Hazrat Moulana Muhammed Yusuf (rahimahullah) explained to those present that the achievements which are truly worthy of honour and importance are the achievements acquired in the path of deen.
When Moulana Yusuf (rahimahullah) explained this to those present, then since his words were filled with sincerity, they all wholeheartedly accepted what he said and were positively affected. (Aap Beeti 6/186, Sawaanih Hazratjee Moulana Muhammed Yusuf [rahimahullah] pg. 664)
A similar incident is reported regarding Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Azeez (rahimahullah), that once, a man from the Ansaar came to him and introduced himself saying, “O Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen! I am so-and-so, the son of so-and-so. My grandfather was killed in the Battle of Badr, and my father was killed in the Battle of Uhud.”
The person was not boasting by mentioning the above, but perhaps was mentioning it out of gratitude and thanks to Allah Ta‘ala for blessing his father and grandfather to take part in the great battles of Islam and gain martyrdom in the path of Allah Ta‘ala .
Hearing the man’s words, Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Azeez (rahimahullah) looked at Ambasah bin Sa’eed, who was seated beside him, and said, “By Allah! These are true achievements which his father and grandfather were blessed with by Allah Ta‘ala!”
