Hazrat Sa’eed Bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) Being Included among the Participants of Badr

Prior to the Battle of Badr, when Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) learnt that the trade caravan of the Quraish, laden with their wealth, had departed from Shaam (Syria) and was returning to Makkah Mukarramah, he sent Hazrat Talhah bin Ubaidullah and Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) to gather information regarding the caravan. This was ten nights before Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and the Sahaabah set out from Madinah Munawwarah towards Badr.

Hazrat Talhah and Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) travelled until they reached a place called Hawraa.  They waited there until the caravan passed by and then immediately set out towards Madinah Munawwarah to inform Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). However, before they could reach Madinah Munawwarah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had already received information regarding the caravan and thus departed from Madinah Munawwarah with a group of Sahaabah towards the trade caravan.

Before leaving Madinah Munawwarah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) encouraged the Sahaabah to pursue the caravan and intercept it. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said to them, “Perhaps Allah Ta’ala will grant you the wealth of the trade caravan as booty.”

Hazrat Talhah and Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reached Madinah Munawwarah the same day that the Muslims met the Kuffaar in the Battle of Badr. Upon being informed of the battle, they immediately set out towards Badr with the intention of joining the Muslims in battle against the Kuffar. However, they met Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) on the way, at a place called Turbaan, while Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and the Sahaabah were returning from Badr.

Even though Hazrat Talhah bin Ubaidullah and Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) did not participate in the battle, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) allotted a share for them from the spoils of war and promised them that they will receive the same reward as those Sahaabah who participated in Badr.

In some narrations, it is reported that after Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) allotted a share of the spoils of war for them, Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), “And what about my reward (i.e. will we also be included among the Ashaab Badr and receive the same reward as them)?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) assured him that they will also receive the same reward as those Sahaabah who participated in Badr.

Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) participated in all the other battles with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
