Sunnats and Aadaab relating to the Employer and Employee – Part 3

1. The employer should pay the employee a fair wage and should not exploit him in any way. Similarly, if the employee works overtime, he should be compensated fairly for the extra time that he worked.

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: قال الله: ثلاثة أنا خصمهم يوم القيامة رجل أعطى بي ثم غدر، ورجل باع حرا فأكل ثمنه، ورجل استأجر أجيرا فاستوفى منه ولم يعط أجره (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 2227)

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) that Allah Ta‘ala said, “I will be an opponent to three types of people on the Day of Qiyaamah: The one who takes a covenant or makes a promise in My Name, but deals treacherously by breaking his covenant or his promise. The one who sells a free person and eats the wealth. The one who employs a labourer and takes full work from him, but does not pay him his due.”
