The Rewards for a Complete Salaam

عن عمران بن حصين قال جاء رجل إلى النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال السلام عليكم. فرد عليه السلام ثم جلس فقال النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم: عشر. ثم جاء آخر فقال السلام عليكم ورحمة الله. فرد عليه فجلس فقال:  عشرون. ثم جاء آخر فقال السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته. فرد عليه فجلس فقال: ثلاثون.( ترمذي 2/98)

Hadhrat Imraan ibn Husain (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that a person once came to meet Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and greeted him with the words: Assalaamu alaikum. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied to the salaam, and the person seated himself in the gathering. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then said: He has received ten rewards. Thereafter another person came to meet Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and greeted him with the words: Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullah. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied to the salaam, and the person seated himself in the gathering. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam then said: He has received twenty rewards. Thereafter another person came to meet Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and greeted him with the words: Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied to the salaam, and the person seated himself in the gathering. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then said: He has received thirty rewards.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported, “Whoever sends salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once, Allah Ta‘ala and His angels will send seventy mercies and blessings upon him in return of his one Durood. Hence, whoever wishes to increase his Durood should increase it, and whoever wishes to decrease his Durood should decrease it (i.e. if he wants to earn great rewards, then he should increase his Durood).”
