Piety and Fear of Allah Ta‘ala
The habits and ways of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) are worthy of being emulated, as they were the people specially chosen by Allah Ta‘ala to be the companions of His beloved Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “I have been sent in the best period of human history.”
Therefore, the era of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was an era of goodness in every regard, and the best people of that era were those people who were chosen to remain in the company of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) Accepts the Invitation of a Woman as He Returns from a Janaazah
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was once returning from a funeral, when a woman invited him for a meal at her house. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) went to the house with some of his Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum). When the food was served, it was noticed that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was chewing a morsel, but it would simply not go down his throat. He said, “It seems that this goat has been slaughtered without the permission of its owner.”
The woman said, “O Nabi of Allah! I had sent someone to buy a goat for me from a flock, but he could not obtain (a suitable) one. My neighbour had also recently purchased a goat, so I sent some money to his home to buy the goat from him. However, my neighbour was not at home, so his wife sold the goat to me and sent it to me.”
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) instructed her to feed the meat to the prisoners of war.
Note:
It has been seen in the lives of many pious Muslims that doubtful food would simply not go down their throats, so this is not such a surprising thing in the case of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), who is the most pious of all people.
