Duas when making sajdah tilaawat

Dua One

When making sajdah tilaawat, one may recite the following dua in the sajdah:

سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ بِحَوْلِهِ وَقُوَّتِهِ

My face prostrates for the One who created it, and gave it hearing and sight through His power and might.

عن عائشة، قالت: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول في سجود القرآن بالليل: سجد وجهي للذي خلقه، وشق سمعه وبصره بحوله وقوته. هذا حديث حسن صحيح (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 3425)

Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu anha) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) would recite the following dua when making sajdah tilaawat during the night:

سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ بِحَوْلِهِ وَقُوَّتِهِ

Dua Two

When making sajdah tilaawat, one may recite the following dua in the sajdah:

اللَّهُمَّ اكْتُبْ لِي بِهَا عِنْدَكَ أَجْرًا، وَضَعْ عَنِّي بِهَا وِزْرًا، وَاجْعَلْهَا لِي عِنْدَكَ ذُخْرًا، وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّي كَمَا تَقَبَّلْتَهَا مِنْ عَبْدِكَ دَاوُدَ

O Allah! Record for me a reward by You through it (this sajdah which I have done), remove a sin from me through it, make it a source of great treasure for me by You (a treasure of goodness), and accept it from me as You have accepted it from Your slave, (Nabi) Dawood (alayhis salaam)

عن ابن عباس، قال: جاء رجل إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: يا رسول الله، إني رأيتني الليلة وأنا نائم كأني أصلي خلف شجرة، فسجدت، فسجدت الشجرة لسجودي، فسمعتها وهي تقول: اللهم اكتب لي بها عندك أجرا، وضع عني بها وزرا، واجعلها لي عندك ذخرا، وتقبلها مني كما تقبلتها من عبدك داود، قال الحسن: قال لي ابن جريج: قال لي جدك: قال ابن عباس: فقرأ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم سجدة، ثم سجد، فقال ابن عباس: فسمعته وهو يقول مثل ما أخبره الرجل عن قول الشجرة. (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 579)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (radhiyallahu anhuma) reports that once a person came to Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and said, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), while sleeping last night I had seen a dream wherein I saw myself performing salaah behind a tree. When I made sajdah, then the tree also made sajdah along with me. I heard the tree making the following dua:

اللَّهُمَّ اكْتُبْ لِي بِهَا عِنْدَكَ أَجْرًا، وَضَعْ عَنِّي بِهَا وِزْرًا، وَاجْعَلْهَا لِي عِنْدَكَ ذُخْرًا، وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّي كَمَا تَقَبَّلْتَهَا مِنْ عَبْدِكَ دَاوُدَ

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (radhiyallahu anhuma) said, “Thereafter, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) recited an aayat of sajdah, and he made sajdah.” Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (radhiyallahu anhuma) further says, “I heard him recite the same dua of the tree (in sajdah) which the man informed him.”

Dua Three

When making sajdah tilaawat, one may recite the following dua in the sajdah:

سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ بِحَوْلِهِ وَقُوَّتِهِ فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ

My face prostrates for the One who created it, and gave it hearing and sight through His power and might. Exalted is Allah, the best of creators (i.e. the best of those who design and make things).

عن عائشة، قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول في سجود القرآن بالليل سجد وجهي للذي خلقه، وشق سمعه وبصره بحوله وقوته فتبارك الله أحسن الخالقين . هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يخرجاه (المستدرك على الصحيحين للحاكم، الرقم: 802)
