The Lives of the Sahaabah (Radhiallahu Anhum)

Man has been created with a purpose and goal. However, he has the tendency of being affected by the environment and those around him, thus losing sight of his purpose and goal. It is for this reason that Allah Ta’aala sent the Ambiyaa (Alaihimus Salaam) to this world, with the primary mission of connecting the creation to their creator, Allah Ta’aala.  This was also the case for the last of all Ambiyaa, the seal of prohethood, Hadhrat Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), who was sent for this very same purpose. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) conveyed the message of Allah Ta’aala to the Sahaabah, and the Sahaabah in turn conveyed the message of Islam to the ummah. During his blessed lifetime, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) personally made a concerted effort on the Sahaabah, developing within them his mubaarak Sunnah (way of life), till the point where each Sahaabi became a mantle of hidaayat (guidance) for the Ummah. Not only did each Sahaabi become a mantle of hidaayat, rather each one of them became a guiding star of Deen.

In fact, Allah Ta’aala revealed the verses:

رضي الله عنهم و رضوا عنه

Allah Ta'aala is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Allah Ta'aala

and Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) endorsed each Sahaabi’s completion and perfection in Deen by saying:

أصحابي كالنجوم فبأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم

My Sahaabah are like guiding stars, whichever of them you follow, you will be rightly guided.

In one Hadith Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has said:

ان الله اختارني و اختار لي أصحابا

Allah Ta’aala has chosen me (as His final messenger) and chose for my companionship my Sahaabah.

If one has to study the history of Islam then one will undoubtedly reach this conclusion that it was the nation of Sahaabah that Allah Ta’aala had divinely selected to establish the Deen of Islam in the world. The pillars and the structures of Islam all rest upon the efforts of the Sahaabah. When it came to the preservation of the Quran it was none other than the Sahaabah that were selected for this noble task. When it came to the preservation of the Ahaadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), and passing it on to the Taabi’een then again it was the illustrious Sahaabah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) (May Allah Ta’aala be pleased with them). They were responsible for spreading the word, action and spirit of the entire deen of Islam to the Ummah. Hence one can safely say that the Sahaabah are the foundation and basis of this entire Deen of Islam. Minus the Sahaabah, the authenticity and reliability of the Quran and Hadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) will be lost. Hence we understand that the Sahaabah played the greatest and most pivotal role in securing and preserving Deen.

Thus it is the duty of the Ummah, that we love the Sahaabah, honour and revere them and educate our children about their lives, their actions and their sacrifices for Deen. Insha Allah, this can serve as a means of acquiring the love of Allah Ta’aala, his Rasul (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and treading upon the path of Deen correctly. In light of this, we have intended to embark upon a study of the personalities and lives of the Sahaabah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). We make du’aa that Allah Ta’aala accept this effort and crown it with divine acceptance.
