Humility in the Lives of the Pious

Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned the following:

The more a person of piety and righteousness progresses in deen (in acquiring the love of Allah Ta‘ala), the more his humility increases. He then continues to progress until he reaches a point where he begins to feel within his heart, “Who can be worse than me?” (i.e. on account of him always looking at his own weaknesses as well as looking at the great favours of Allah Ta‘ala upon him and his inability to make shukr to Allah Ta‘ala for these favours, he begins to feel in this way).
