Sunnats and Aadaab of Speech – Part 4

1. When relating any incident or report, one should relate the exact incident with the correct details. One should not give incorrect information or exaggerate in explaining the situation. Similarly, one should refrain from beautifying one’s speech with the intention of impressing people. This manner of speech has been disapproved of in the Hadith.

عن عبد الله بن عمرو، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: إن الله يبغض البليغ من الرجال الذي يتخلل بلسانه كما تتخلل البقرة (سنن الترمذي ، الرقم: 2853)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Certainly Allah Ta‘ala dislikes the one who tries to be eloquent (in order to impress people), and speaks in a manner that his tongue continues moving between his teeth as a cow’s tongue continues moving (while it eats).”
