Aadaab of Business and Dealings – Part 13

One should recite the following Duaas when entering the marketplace.

Dua One:

لَا إِلَه إِلَّا الله وَحده لَا شريك لَهُ لَهُ الْملك وَله الْحَمد يحيي وَيُمِيت وَهُوَ حَيّ لَا يَمُوت بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْر وَهُوَ على كل شَيْء قدير

There is no deity besides Allah Ta’ala alone, who has no partner. To Him belongs the kingdom (of the entire universe), and for Him is all praise. He gives life and gives death, and He is eternal and will not die. In His hands (control) alone lies all good and He has complete power over everything.

عن عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال من دخل السوق فقال لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد يحيي ويميت وهو حي لا يموت بيده الخير وهو على كل شيء قدير كتب الله له ألف ألف حسنة ومحا عنه ألف ألف سيئة ورفع له ألف ألف درجة (وفي رواية وبنى له بيتا في الجنة) (سنن الترمذي رقم 3428-3429)

Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “The one who enters the marketplace and recites the following duaa, Allah Ta‘ala will record for him one million good deeds, forgive one million sins and raise his status by one million ranks (and in one narration, Allah Ta‘ala also builds a palace for him in Jannah).”

Dua Two:

بِسْمِ الله اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذِه السُّوق وَخيْرَ مَا فِيْهَا وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيْهَا اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُصِيْبَ فِيْهَا يَمِيْنًا فَاجِرَةً أَوْ صَفْقَةً ​خَاسِرَةً

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I beg of You the good of this market and the good of what is in it; and I seek Your protection from the evil of this market and the evil of what is in it. O Allah, I seek Your protection from taking a false oath or incurring a loss while trading.

عن سليمان بن بريدة عن أبيه رضي الله عنه قال كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا دخل السوق قال بسم الله اللهم إني أسألك خير هذه السوق وخير ما فيها وأعوذ بك من شرها وشر ما فيها اللهم إني أعوذ بك أن أصيب فيها يمينا فاجرة أو صفقة خاسرة (المستدرك على الصحيحين 1/723 ، الحصن الحصين ص169)

Hazrat Buraydah (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrates that whenever Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) entered the marketplace, he would recite the following duaa: 

بِسْمِ الله اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذِه السُّوق وَخيْرَ مَا فِيْهَا وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيْهَا اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُصِيْبَ فِيْهَا يَمِيْنًا فَاجِرَةً أَوْ صَفْقَةً ​خَاسِرَةً
