The footwear of ihraam

Q: What type of sandal or footwear should a person wear in the state of ihraam?

A: In the state of Ihraam, it is necessary that the upper portion of the foot be exposed (i.e. from the place where the shoe-lace is normally tied up to the ankle) as well as the area around the ankle. This law applies only to males. As far as females are concerned, it is permissible for them to wear footwear that covers their entire feet in the state of ihraam.

( وخفين إلا أن لا يجد نعلين فيقطعهما أسفل من الكعبين ) عند معقد الشراك فيجوز لبس الزرموزة لا الجوربين اه (قوله أسفل من الكعبين) … والمرأ قطعهما بحيث يصير الكعبان وما فوقهما من الساق مكشوفا لا قطع موضع الكعبين فقط … (قوله عند معقد الشراك) وهو المفصل الذي في وسط القدم لذا روى هشام عن محمد بخلافه في الوضوء فإنه العظم الناتي أي المرتفع ولم يعين في الحديث أحدهما لكن لما كان الكعب يطلق عليهما حمل على الأول احتياطا لأن الأحوط فيما كان أكثر كشفا بحر (شامي ج2 ص490) (أيضا غنية الناسك ص240وص86)
