عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد. رواه البخاري ومسلم وأبو داود ولفظه من صنع أمرا على غير أمرنا فهو رد. وابن ماجه وفي رواية لمسلم من عمل عملا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد (الترغيب والترهيب 1/103)

Hadhrat Aaisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who innovates a practice in our Deen which is not part of Deen, his innovatory practice will be rejected (in the court of Allah Ta’aala).”

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported, “Whoever sends salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once, Allah Ta‘ala and His angels will send seventy mercies and blessings upon him in return of his one Durood. Hence, whoever wishes to increase his Durood should increase it, and whoever wishes to decrease his Durood should decrease it (i.e. if he wants to earn great rewards, then he should increase his Durood).”
