Hazrat Qais bin Abi Gharza (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports: “During the era of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), we (some of the Sahaabah who were involved in business) were called Samaasira (a name for those involved in business i.e. a middle man who facilitates the transaction). On one occasion Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) passed by us in the market place and addressed us with a better name (as the name ‘samaasira’ was regarded as an inferior form of business among the people) saying: ‘O group of tujjaar (traders) (i.e. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) equated our profession with the normal traders) generally, trade and commerce becomes affected and contaminated through futile talk and unnecessarily taking oaths in the name of Allah Ta’ala (in order to promote one’s business), therefore purify and cleanse your wealth from the evil through giving sadaqah.'”
