Hazrat Ammaar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and His Parents – Fazaail A’maal – Taleem Series – Part Seven

Hazrat Ammaar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and his parents were also subjected to severe punishment (by the disbelievers of Makkah Mukarramah). They would be tortured on the burning hot sands of Makkah Mukarramah. While passing by them, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would encourage them to firmly hold onto sabr (patience and steadfastness), and he would give them glad tidings of Jannah.

Hazrat Ammaar’s father, Hazrat Yaasir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), eventually passed away while undergoing torture. The disbelievers did not allow him any relief, and continued torturing him until he breathed his last.

As for his mother, Hazrat Sumayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), then she was killed by the accursed Abu Jahl, who put his spear through the most private part of her body, causing her to die as a martyr. She had refused to renounce Islam in the face of terrible torture in her old age. The wretched Abu Jahl did not have any sympathy for her (and killed her in this way, despite her advanced age and weakness). This blessed woman was the first person to become a shaheed (martyr) in the path of Islam.

The first musjid in Islam was built by Hazrat Ammaar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) made hijrah and came to Madinah Munawwarah, Hazrat Ammaar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) offered to build a structure for him where he could sit, take rest in the afternoon, and perform his salaah under its roof. Hazrat Ammaar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) first collected the stones and then built the musjid in Quba.

Hazrat Ammaar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) fought against the enemies of Islam with great zeal and courage. Once, he was fighting in a battle when he said rejoicingly, “I am going to meet my friends very soon, I am going to meet Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and his companions!”

He then felt thirsty and asked for water, but was offered some milk. He drank the milk and said, “I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying to me, ‘Milk shall be the last drink of your worldly life.’”

He then fought until he acquired martyrdom. At that time, his age was ninety-four years. According to some scholars, his age was a little less than ninety-four.
