After the nikaah, the bride’s father should take some water and sprinkle it on the face and on the clothing over the chest of the bride. He should then recite the following dua:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أُعِيْذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ
O Allah! I seek Your protection for her and her progeny from shaitaan, the accursed.
The bride’s father should then sprinkle water between her shoulders, after which he should recite the abovementioned dua again.
Thereafter, the bride’s father should sprinkle water on the head and chest of the husband (i.e. his son-in-law), and then between his shoulders (i.e. above his clothing). In the case of the husband, the bride’s father will recite the following dua after sprinkling the water:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أُعِيْذُهُ بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ
O Allah! I seek Your protection for him and his progeny from shaitaan, the accursed.
It is reported that at the time when Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) married Hazrat Faatimah (radiyallahu anha) to Hazrat Ali (radiyallahu anhu), he came to their home and asked Hazrat Faatimah (radiyallahu anha) to bring some water. Hazrat Faatimah (radiyallahu anha) brought a bowl of water.
Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) took the bowl and placed his mubaarak saliva in the water. He then called Hazrat Faatimah (radiyallahu anha) closer. When she came close, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) sprinkled water on her face and chest (i.e. on the clothing), and thereafter recited the following dua:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أُعِيْذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ
O Allah. I seek your protection for her and her progeny from shaitaan the accursed.
Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) then asked her to turn around. When she turned around, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) sprinkled water between her shoulders (above her clothing) and recited the dua:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أُعِيْذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ
O Allah. I seek your protection for her and her progeny from shaitaan the accursed.
Thereafter, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) asked Hazrat Ali (radiyallahu anhu) to bring some water. Hazrat Ali (radiyallahu anhu) said, “I knew what Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) intended so I filled the bowl with water and brought it before him.” Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) took the bowl and placed his mubaarak saliva in the water. He then called Hazrat Ali (radiyallahu anhu) closer. When he came close, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) began sprinkling water on his head and on his chest (i.e. above the clothing) while reciting the dua:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أُعِيْذُهُ بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ
O Allah. I seek your protection for him and his progeny from shaitaan the accursed.
Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) then told him to turn around. When he turned around, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) sprinkled water between his shoulders (above his clothing) while reciting the dua,
O Allah. I seek your protection for him and his progeny from shaitaan the accursed.
Thereafter Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) told him, “Take Allah’s name, and live with peace and blessings with your wife.” (Saheeh ibnu Hibbaan #6944)
