Sunnats and Aadaab which every person needs to adhere to in his individual life – 3

7. If one is married, then one should ensure that he is kind and compassionate towards his wife. Similarly, he should be concerned about teaching her deen and fulfilling his marital responsibilities towards her. Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) emphasized the importance of each spouse fulfilling the rights they owe to the other.

In regard to the husband treating his wife in a good manner, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The best among you are those who treat their wives in the best manner, and I treat my wives the best.” (Sunan Tirmizi #3895)

In regard to the wife fulfilling the rights of the husband, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned, “Shall I inform you of the best ‘wealth’ that a man can acquire? It is a pious wife who is such that when her husband looks at her, she pleases him, when he instructs her to do something, she obeys him, and when he is absent, she protects her chastity and her husbands’ wealth.” (Sunan Abu Dawood #1664)

8. If one has children, then one should treat his children with love and affection. He should also be concerned about giving them an Islamic upbringing and educating them in matters of deen and dunya. He should instil within them good morals and values and teach them good character and how to fulfil the rights of Allah Ta’ala and the rights of the creation.

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “No father can give his child a better gift than the gift of good manners.” (Sunan Tirmizi #1952)

In another Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) mentioned, “Treat your children with honour and dignity, and teach them good morals and values.” (Sunan ibnu Maajah #3671)

It is reported that the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)! We know the rights of the father over the child, but what are the rights of the child over the father?” Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “The right of the child over the father is that the father gives him a good name and teaches him Islamic etiquette and values.” (Shu’abul Imaan #8291)

It is reported that Hazrat Ibnu Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) once advised a person saying, “Ensure that you give your child a good Islamic upbringing, for you will be questioned regarding this on the Day of Qiyaamah. You will be asked regarding the type of upbringing that you had given him and the type of education that you had imparted to him, while he will also be asked regarding whether he was obedient and submissive to you.” (Shu’abul Imaan #8295)

9. When dealing with people, one should ensure that he fulfils their rights, whether they be his family members, his neighbours, his employers or employees, or the general public. One should deal with the creation in a just manner and refrain from causing any inconvenience to them. Without fulfilling the rights of the creation, one will not succeed in acquiring the love of Allah Ta’ala and success in the hereafter.

Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
