The Description of Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) – The Signs of Qiyaamah – Part Fourteen

Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) was sent by Allah Ta‘ala to the Bani Israa’eel. Among the commands which Allah Ta‘ala had given him was to give glad tidings to his people regarding the coming of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to the world. Allah Ta‘ala mentions in the Qur’aan Majeed:

And remember when Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam), the son of Hazrat Maryam (‘alaihas salaam), said, “O Bani Israa’eel! I am the Rasul of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Towrah that is (sent down) before me, and giving glad tidings of a Rasul to come after me whose name shall be Ahmad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).” (Surah Saff v. 6)

Just as Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) informed his people that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) will be sent to the world before Qiyaamah as the final messenger of Allah Ta‘ala, similarly Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) informed his ummah that before Qiyaamah, Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) will be sent to save his ummah from the fitnah of Dajjaal.

In regard to the description of Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) informed the ummah of his physical appearance and also informed the ummah of the clothing which he will be wearing at the time of his descent from the heavens.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) will definitely descend from the heavens. Hence, when you see him, recognize him (by the description which I will give you). He is a man of moderate height. His complexion is fair with a tinge of red. He will be clad in two yellow cloths and it will seem as if his head is dripping, even though it was not wet with water.” (Musnad-e-Ahmad #9270)

In some Ahaadith, it is mentioned that Nabi Isa’s (‘alaihis salaam) complexion will be fair. His skin will be similar to the colour of wheat, with a tinge of redness in it. He will be of moderate height, having a broad chest. His hair will be long, reaching his shoulders. At the time of his descent, he will be wearing two yellow cloths and his hair will appear to be wet.

The Ahl-e-Kitaab Believing in Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) after His Descent

After Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam) descends from the heavens, he will invite the non-Muslims to the deen of Islam and he will uphold the Shari’ah of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in the world. All the non-Muslims will embrace Islam, until there will not be any person living in the world who will not be a Muslim. Hence, at that time, the only religion in the world will be the religion of Islam.

In the Qur’aan Majeed, Allah Ta‘ala says, “And there will be no person from the Ahl-e-Kitaab except that he will most certainly bring imaan in him (Nabi Isa [alaihis salaam]) before his death (i.e. the death of Nabi Isa [alaihis salaam])… (Surah Nisaa v. 159)

In the Mubaarak Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned, “He (i.e. Nabi Isa [alaihis salaam]) will destroy the cross, kill the swine and abolish jizyah (i.e. the taxes levied on non-Muslim citizens in an Islamic state will no longer be levied as everyone will accept Islam). He will invite towards Islam. Hence, during his era, Allah Ta‘ala will destroy every religion besides Islam.” (Musnad Ahmed #9270)
