Reciting Mu’awwazatain when Experiencing Pain or Feeling Sick

When one is experiencing pain or feeling sick, one should recite the mu’awwazatain (Surah Falaq and Surah Naas) and thereafter blow on his palms and rub them over his body.

Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) reports that whenever Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would feel sick, he would recite the mu’awwazatain and blow upon himself. When his sickness became intense (in his final illness when he was unable to recite the mu’awwazatain himself), I would recite it for him, and I would take his mubaarak hands and (after blowing on them), I would rub his hands (over his mubaarak body), as I hoped that rubbing his hands over his body will be a means of blessings (rather than me rubbing my hands over his body).
