Sunnats and Aadaab of Speech – Part 19

1. One should verify information before one shares it with others. Merely relying on hearsay without verifying the information is not in keeping with the teachings of shariah, especially when it relates to people’s rights or respect. Many a time one creates confusion or becomes sinful due to not being careful and cautious in this regard.

عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: كفى بالمرء كذبا أن يحدث بكل ما سمع (مقدمة صحيح مسلم – باب النهي عن الحديث بكل ما سمع)

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “It is sufficient to cause a person to fall in the sin of lying that anything he hears, he speaks about it.”
