Sunnats and Aadaab of Speech – Part 2

1. When conversing with people, one should not speak too fast, rather one should speak at a pace that people may easily understand. One should speak clearly and be to the point. One should not be too brief in one’s speech, thereby making it difficult for people to understand the full message. Similarly, when there is no need for one to give a detailed explanation, then one should not unnecessarily lengthen one’s speech by doing so.

Hazrat Aaisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) reports: “Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) would not speak fast as you speak (in the manner some of you speak). He (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) would speak every word properly and clearly, and his speech would be well-measured. (He would speak) in such a manner that people seated by him would easily be able to understand and remember what he had said.”
