Second Rakaat,Qa`dah and Salaam

Second Rakaat

1. When getting up one should not take support from the ground (unless one has the need to do so).[1]

2. Perform the second rakaat as normal (with the exception of thanaa ta`awwuz at the beginning).[2]

Qa`dah and Salaam

3. After the second sajdah of the second rakaat, sit in the position of qa`dah in the same manner as explained for jalsah.[3]

4. Recite the tashahhud – attahiyyaat.[4]

5. When sayingأَنْ لا إِلٰهَ  form a ring with the thumb and middle finger of the right hand, raise the index finger and close the remaining two fingers. When saying إِلاَّ الله lower the index finger. The ring will be kept till the end of the tashahhud.[5]

6. If it is a three or four rakaats salaah then stand up after the tashahhud to complete the remaining rakaats.[6]

7. If it is the last qa`dah then read durood-e-ibraaheem after the tashahhud followed by a du`aa from the Qur’aan or hadith.[7]

Note: The two common duas that are recited are as follows:[8]

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَ إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً

مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الغَفُورُ الرَّحِيم

 

 رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيْمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ

وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَاب

8. After the du`aa make salaam by turning the head to the right side and then to the left without lowering the head.[9]

9. Commence the second salaam immediately after the first salaam without pausing inbetween.[10]

10. When making salaam on either side fix the gaze on both the shoulders.[11]

11. Turn the face on both sides to the extent that the person behind will be able to see the cheek of the musallee.[12]

12. After the salaam, say اَللهُ أَكْبَر and then أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ thrice.[13]

13. Engage in du`aa (as this is a time for the acceptance of du`aas).[14]

14. Recite tasbeeh-e-faatimi after every salaah.[15

Jalsah

Jalsah

1. Place the palms on the thighs with the fingertips at the edge of the knees.[1]

2. Keep the fingers in their natural position.[2]

3. Fix the gaze on the area between the lower chest and lap whilst in jalsah.[3]

4. Keep the right foot erect and the left foot flat whilst sitting on it.[4]

5. Face the toes of both feet towards the qiblah.[5]

6. Remain in the position of jalsah with ta`deel-e-arkaan before proceeding for the second sajdah.[6]

7. Say the takbeer and proceed to the second sajdah as normal.[7]

8. After the second sajdah say the takbeer and stand up for the second rakaat.[8]

Sajdah

Sajdah

1. Say the takbeer and proceed into sajdah.[1]

2. Keep the back straight when going into sajdah.[2]

3. Place the knees first on the ground, then the palms, then the nose and lastly the forehead.[3]

4. Keep the fingers tightly closed facing towards the qiblah.[4]

5. Place the palms parallel to the ears.[5]

6. Raise the elbows off the ground.[6]

7. Keep the hands away from the sides.[7]

8. Fix the gaze on the nose in sajdah.[8]

9. Allow a gap to be between the stomach and thighs.[9]

10. Keep both the feet together with the toes facing the qiblah.[10]

Mas’alah: It is impermissible for one in the state of sajdah to raise his feet off the ground. If one raised both his feet for the duration of three subhanallah’s his salaah will break.[11]

11. Recite the tasbeeh: سُبْحٰنَ رَبِّيَ الْاَعْلىٰ thrice or any odd number of times.[12]

12. Say the takbeer and sit up in the position of jalsah.[13]

Ruku and Qaumah

Ruku and Qaumah

1. Say the takbeer and go into ruku.[1]

Note: The takbeeraat-e-intiqaaliyyah (takbeer which is recited when moving from one posture to another) should be commenced as soon as one begins moving to the next posture and only completed when one reaches that posture.[2]

2. In ruku the back and head should be kept in a straight line, the legs i.e. knee downwards will be kept erect and the elbows will be kept straight.[3]

3. Grasp the knees firmly with the fingers spread apart.[4]

4. Fix the gaze on the feet in the posture of ruku.[5]

5. Keep the hands away from the sides.[6]

6. Recite the tasbeeh: ِسُبْحٰنَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيْمthrice or any odd number of times.[7]

7. Stand up from ruku while saying the tasmee`: سَمِعَ اَللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ  followed by the tahmeed: اَللّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ (The imam will only recite the tasmee`, the muqtadi will only recite the tahmeed whilst the munfarid will recite both.)[8]

8. Stand up erect with ta`deel-e-arkaan i.e. the body should be completely at ease before going into sajdah.[9]

Qiyaam

Qiyaam

1. Face the qiblah.[1]

2. Keep a distance between both the feet (approximately 4 fingers) with the toes of both the feet facing towards the qiblah.[2]

3. Raise the hands up to the ears with the thumbs being parallel with the earlobes.[3]

4. Once the hands are raised parallel to the earlobes, recite the takbeer الله أكبر.[4]

5. When raising the hands to the earlobes ensure that the palms are facing the qiblah and the fingers are kept in their natural position, neither spread apart nor tightly closed.[5]

6. The head should be kept straight without bending it or pulling it back.[6]

7. Fold the hands below the navel after saying the takbeer.[7]

8. Place the right hand over the left hand.[8]

9. Form a ring with the thumb and small finger of the right hand around the left wrist.[9]

10. Fix the gaze on the place of sajdah during the standing posture.[10]

11. Recite the thanaa.

NB: The thanaa will be recited by the Imaam as well as the muqtadis.[11]

12. Recite ta`awwuz followed by tasmiyah.[12]

13. Recite Surah Fatihah followed by qiraat.[13]

Mas’alah: The ta’awwuz, tasmiyah and qiraat will only be recited by the Imaam.[14]

Mas’alah: The muqtadi will remain silent after reciting the thanaa. He will not recite the ta’awwuz, tasmiyah and the qiraat  behind the imaam.[15]

Mas’alah: If one is performing salaah individually he would recite the ta’awwuz, tasmiyah and qiraat.[16]

Mas’alah: If the muqtadi joined the salaah at the time when the qiraat  had commenced, then the muqtadi should not recite the thanaa. Instead, he should remain silent after saying the takbeer.[17]

14. Recite tasmiyah before the surah.[18]

Mas’alah: The tasmiya will only be recited after surah faatiha if one is going to commence a surah. If one is not going to commence any surah then tasmiyah should not be recited.[19]

Mas’alah: One should endeavour to recite the masnoon qiraat that has been prescribed for the various salaahs. The masnoon qiraat is as follows:

One should recite in Fajr and Zuhr from the Tiwaal-e-Mufassal surahs i.e. from Surah Hujraat to Surah Inshiqaaq, and in Asr and Esha from the Awsaat-e-Mufassal surahs i.e. from Surah Burooj to Surah Qadr and in Maghrib salaah from the Qisaar-e-Mufassal surahs i.e. from Surah Bayyinah to Surah Naas.[20]
