Sincerity in Acquiring the Knowledge of Deen

وعن ابن عمر عن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال من تعلم علما لغير الله أو أراد به غير الله فليتبوأ مقعده من النار رواه الترمذي وابن ماجه كلاهما عن خالد بن دريك عن ابن عمر ولم يسمع منه ورجال إسنادهما ثقات  (الترغيب والترهيب 1/155)

Hazrat ibn Umar (Radhiyallahu Anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who acquires the knowledge of Deen for any motive besides the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala (i.e. for any worldly motive), he should prepare his abode in the fire of Jahannum.”
