Showing Affection to the Creation

Hazrat Mufti Ebrahim Salejee (Daamat Barakaatuhu) mentioned:

After his appointment as khaleefah, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was approached by the children of the neighbourhood who told him that they feared he would not be as affectionate to them as before he became the khaleefa. Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) assured them that he would continue showing them the same kind of affection and love he used to show them before the khilaafat.

Despite him holding such a lofty and exalted position, he didn’t feel it below his dignity to show affection to the children of the neighbourhood. This is what we need to instil in our lives. The very first people who we should commence showing kindness to are our immediate family members.
