The legacy (inheritance) of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

It is reported regarding Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) that on one occasion as he was passing by the market of Madinah Munawwarah, he stopped and said: “O people of the market, what has made you helpless (from going to acquire the good)?” They replied: “What are you referring to, O Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu)?” Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) said: “The legacy (inheritance) of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is being distributed, and you are remaining behind over here? Why don’t you go and take your share of it?” The people said: “And where is it being distributed?” Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) replied: “(It is being distributed) in the Musjid.” The people hastily left (for the Musjid) while Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) remained there (in the market) waiting for them to return (from the Musjid). When they returned (from the Musjid to the market), he said to them: “What has happened?” They replied: “O Abu Hurayrah, we went to the Musjid, but we did not see anything (any inheritance) being distributed over there.” Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) said to them: “Didn’t you find anyone present in the Musjid (engaged in some amal)?” They replied: “Yes, we did see some people present. There was a group of people engaged in performing salaah, and (another) group of people engaged in the recitation of the Qur’an, and a (third) group occupied in teaching the people halaal and haraam.” Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) said: “Woe to you, that which you have seen (the Aamaal of Deen) is the legacy (inheritance) of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).”

Receiving Seventy Rewards

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported, “Whoever sends salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once, Allah Ta‘ala and His angels will send seventy mercies and blessings upon him in return of his one Durood. Hence, whoever wishes to increase his Durood should increase it, and whoever wishes to decrease his Durood should decrease it (i.e. if he wants to earn great rewards, then he should increase his Durood).”
