The Heirs of the Ambiyaa

عن أبي الدرداء رضي الله عنه قال سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يقول من سلك طريقا يلتمس فيه علما سهل الله له طريقا إلى الجنة وإن الملائكة لتضع أجنحتها لطالب العلم رضا بما يصنع وإن العالم ليستغفر له من في السموات ومن في الأرض حتى الحيتان في الماء وفضل العالم على العابد كفضل القمر على سائر الكواكب وإن العلماء ورثة الأنبياء إن الأنبياء لم يورثوا دينارا ولا درهما إنما ورثوا العلم فمن أخذه أخذ بحظ وافر. رواه أبو داود والترمذي وابن ماجه وابن حبان في صحيحه والبيهقي وقال الترمذي لا يعرف إلا من حديث عاصم بن رجاء بن حيوة وليس إسناده عندي بمتصل وإنما يروى عن عاصم بن رجاء بن حيوة عن داود بن جميل عن كثير بن قيس عن أبي الدرداء عن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم وهذا أصح  (الترغيب والترهيب 1/120)

Hadhrat Abu Dardaa (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who treads a path seeking the knowledge of Deen, Allah Ta’ala makes his path towards Jannah easy. The angels spread out their wings under the feet of the one seeking the knowledge of Deen in expression of happiness for the path he has adopted. And all the creation in the heavens and the earth until the fish in the ocean seek forgiveness on behalf of an Aalim; and the virtue of an Aalim over an Aabid is like the superiority of the moon over all the other stars. And certainly the Ulama are the heirs of the Ambiyaa. The Ambiyaa did not leave behind Dinaars and Dirhams (in their legacy), rather they left behind the knowledge of Deen. Whoever has acquired it, really he has acquired a great share (of Allah’s bounties).”
