The Generosity of Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Ali bin Zayd (rahimahullah) narrates that once, a bedouin approached Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in order to seek assistance from him. The bedouin was a relative of Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and when presenting his request, he asked him through the bond of kinship which they both shared between themselves.

Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) responded, ‘Prior to you, no person has asked me for assistance through the medium of kinship.’ He then said, ‘I have a piece of land for which Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) offered me three hundred thousand dirhams. You may have this piece of land. If you so wish, I will sell the land to Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) on your behalf and then give you the full amount for which I had sold it.’ (Siyaru A’alaamin Nubala 1/31)

Qabeesah bin Jaabir (rahimahullah) said, “I remained in the company of Hazrat Talhah bin Ubaidillah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) for some while and I did not find anyone more generous than him in spending a large amount of wealth on the poor without them even asking him.” (Tareekh Tabari 5/337)
