Hazrat Abu Ubaidah’s (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) Actions conforming to the Quraan Majeed

During the battle of Badr, Hazrat Abu Ubaidah’s father continued to pursue him trying to kill him. However, he continued to avoid his father so that he did not have to confront him and kill him.

However, when his father persisted and finally confronted him and there was no other way to save his life but to kill his father, he went forward and killed him.

It was on this occasion that Allah Ta’ala revealed the following verse:

“You will not find those who believe in Allah and in the Hereafter having love for those people who oppose Allah and His Rasul (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), even though those people may be their own fathers, sons, brothers or (people of) their tribe.” (Surah Mujaadalah v22)
