Tasbeehaat/Duaas in Ruku

Tasbeeh One:

In ruku, one should recite the following tasbeeh thrice or any odd number of times:

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيْم

Glorified is my Rabb, the most great.

عن حذيفة رضي الله عنه قال صليت مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ذات ليلة … ثم ركع فجعل يقول سبحان ربي العظيم فكان ركوعه نحوا من قيامه ثم قال سمع الله لمن حمده ثم قام طويلا قريبا مما ركع (صحيح مسلم، الرقم: 772)

Hazrat Huzaifah (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that one night he performed salaah with Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) … he then went into ruku’ and began reciting  سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيْم, and the length of his ruku’ was as long as his qiyaam. He then recited سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهْ and stood for almost as long as his ruku’.

عن عقبة بن عامر قال لما نزلت فسبح باسم ربك العظيم قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم اجعلوها في ركوعكم فلما نزلت سبح اسم ربك الأعلى قال اجعلوها في سجودكم (سنن أبي داود رقم 869 ، رواه أبو داود وسكت عليه هو والمنذري (مختصر سنن أبي داود 1/ 306)

Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that when the verse فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيْم was revealed, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Recite it in your ruku’.”(i.e. recite سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيْم  in your ruku’).  When the verseسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى was revealed, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Recite it in your sajdah.” (i.e. reciteسُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى in your sajdah).

عن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنهما أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال إذا ركع أحدكم فقال في ركوعه سبحان ربي العظيم ثلاث مرات فقد تم ركوعه وذلك أدناه وإذا سجد فقال في سجوده سبحان ربي الأعلى ثلاث مرات فقد تم سجوده وذلك أدناه قال وفي الباب عن حذيفة و عقبة بن عامر قال أبو عيسى حديث ابن مسعود ليس إسناده بمتصل عون بن عبد الله بن عتبة لم يلق ابن مسعود (جامع الترمذي، الرقم: 261)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “When any of you performs ruku’ and recites سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيْم thrice, then his ruku’ is complete, and that is the least (of the Sunnah amount). When any of you makes sajdah and recites سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى thrice, then his sajdah is complete, and that is the least (of the Sunnah amount).”

Tasbeeh Two:

Reciting the following tasbeeh thrice in ruku is also established in the sunnah:

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

Glory be to Allah, with all His praise

عن أبي مالك الأشعري أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى، فلما ركع قال: سبحان الله وبحمده ثلاث مرات، ثم رفع رأسه (المعجم الكبير، الرقم: 3422،  وقال في مجمع الزوائد، الرقم: 2780، رواه الطبراني في الكبير وفيه شهر بن حوشب وفيه بعض كلام وقد وثقه غير واحد)

Hazrat Abu Maalik Ash’ari (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) performed salaah, and when he went into ruku, he recited the following tasbeeh thrice. Thereafter he lifted his head from ruku:

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

In ruku, one should recite سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيْم thrice. One may also recite the following dua in ruku when performing sunnat or nafl salaah:

Duaa One:

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي

Glory be to You, O Allah, our Rabb, with all Your praise! O Allah, forgive me.

عن عائشة رضي الله عنها، قالت: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول في ركوعه وسجوده: سبحانك اللهم ربنا وبحمدك اللهم اغفر لي (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 794)

Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu anha) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) would recite the following in his ruku and sajdah (in his nafl salaah):

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي

Duaa Two:

اَللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي، وَبَصَرِي، وَمُخِّي، وَعَظْمِي، وَعَصَبِي

O Allah, for You alone do I bow down (in ruku), in You alone do I bring Imaan, to You alone do I submit myself. My hearing, my sight, my brain, my bones and my tendons/muscles all submit to You alone

عن علي بن أبي طالب، عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه كان إذا قام إلى الصلاة… وإذا ركع، قال: اللهم لك ركعت وبك آمنت ولك أسلمت خشع لك سمعي وبصري ومخي وعظمي، وعصبي (صحيح مسلم، الرقم: 771- وفي سنن النسائي بتغيير يسير ، الرقم: 1052 ، كان إذا قام يصلي تطوعا)

Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) stood up for (nafl) salaah…When he went into ruku, he recited the following dua:

اَللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي، وَبَصَرِي، وَمُخِّي، وَعَظْمِي، وَعَصَبِي

Duaa Three:

سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ

You are glorified, You are pure, You are the Rabb of the angels and the Rabb of Jibreel (alayhis salaam)

عن عائشة قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول في ركوعه: سبوح قدوس رب الملائكة والروح (سنن النسائي، الرقم: 1048)

Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu anha) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) would recite the following tasbeeh in his ruku

سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ

Duaa Four:

سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْجَبَرُوتِ وَالْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ

Glory be to (Allah Ta’ala), the Possessor of all might, the Possessor of the entire kingdom, the Possessor of all grandeur, the Possessor of all greatness.

عن عوف بن مالك قال: قمت مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ليلة، فلما ركع مكث قدر سورة البقرة يقول في ركوعه: سبحان ذي الجبروت والملكوت والكبرياء والعظمة (سنن النسائي، الرقم: 1049)

Hazrat Awf bin Maalik (radhiyallahu anhu) says: “I stood with Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) on one night to perform (nafl) salaah. When he went into ruku, he remained in ruku for the duration of reciting Surah Baqarah, while reciting the following tasbeeh (in ruku):

سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْجَبَرُوتِ وَالْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ
