Among the greatest actions in deen is showing respect to the Sha’aair (salient symbols) of Islam. Showing respect to the Sha’aa’ir of Islam is an action that stems from the piety of the heart. Allah Ta‘ala says in the Qur’aan Majeed, “The one who respects (and sanctifies) the salient symbols of Allah, then indeed it (showing respect) is from the piety of the heart.” (Surah Hajj v. 32)
The Sha’aa’ir of Islam refers to the salient symbols of Islam through which Islam is recognized and differentiated from other religions viz. the Qur’aan Majeed, the Mubaarak Ahaadith, the Ka’bah Shareef, the musjid, the azaan, etc.
There are many examples in the annals of history where people gained their forgiveness in the Hereafter on account of them showing honour and respect to the Sha’aair of Islam. Below is one such incident:
Hazrat Sulaimaan Shaazkuni (rahimahullah) Gaining Forgiveness Due to Respecting the Kitaabs of Hadith
There was a great Muhaddith by the name of Sulaimaan Shaazkuni (rahimahullah). It is reported that on one occasion, he was traveling on the road to Isbahaan while carrying the books of Hadith in his hand. While he was traveling, it began to rain and there was no place where he could take shelter and protect the kitaabs of Hadith from getting wet.
He immediately sat down and crouched in a manner that his body covered and shielded the kitaabs of Hadith from the rain, protecting them from getting wet. It continued to rain throughout the night, and he remained crouching in this manner. In the morning, when the rain subsided, his entire body was drenched with water, but the kitaabs of Hadith remained dry.
After he passed away, he was seen in a dream and was asked how Allah Ta‘ala had dealt with him. He mentioned that it was on account of this action – of showing respect to the kitaabs of Hadith – that Allah Ta‘ala had forgiven him. (Siyar A’laamin Nubalaa 10/682)
May Allah Ta‘ala bless us all with the taufeeq of showing respect and honour to the Sha’aair of Islam and everything that is associated with Islam.
