Duaas at the Time of Strong Winds

At the time of strong winds, one should recite the following duaas:

Duaa One:

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ

O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good that is contained within it and the good that it was sent with, and I seek Your protection from its evil, the evil that is contained within it and the evil that it was sent with.

عن عائشة، زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، أنها قالت: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا عصفت الريح قال: اللهم إني أسألك خيرها، وخير ما فيها، وخير ما أرسلت به، وأعوذ بك من شرها، وشر ما فيها، وشر ما أرسلت به (صحيح مسلم، الرقم: 899)

Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would recite the following dua when a strong wind would blow: 

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ

Duaa Two:

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْها رَحْمَةً وَلا تَجْعَلْها عَذَاباً، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْها رِياحاً وَلا تَجْعَلْها رِيحاً

O Allah, make it (this wind a means of Your) mercy and do not make it a (means of Your) punishment. O Allah, make it a wind (of immense goodness and benefit) and do not make it a wind (of punishment).

وروى الإمام الشافعي رحمه الله في كتابه الأم بإسناده، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، قال: ما هبت الريح إلا جثا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم على ركبتيه وقال: اللهم اجعلها رحمة ولا تجعلها عذابا، اللهم اجعلها رياحا ولا تجعلها ريحا (الأذكار للنووي، الرقم: 518)

Hazrat ibnu Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that whenever a wind would blow, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would sit and recite the following dua:

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْها رَحْمَةً وَلا تَجْعَلْها عَذَاباً، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْها رِياحاً وَلا تَجْعَلْها رِيحاً

Duaa Three:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ هَذِهِ الرِّيحِ وَخَيْرِ مَا فِيهَا وَخَيْرِ مَا أُمِرَتْ بِهِ، وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ هَذِهِ الرِّيحِ وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا وَشَرِّ مَا أُمِرَتْ بِهِ

O Allah, we ask You for the good of this wind, the good that is contained within it and the good that it was commanded with, and we seek Your protection from the evil of this wind, the evil that is contained within it and the evil that it was commanded with.

عن أبي بن كعب قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: لا تسبوا الريح، فإذا رأيتم ما تكرهون فقولوا: اللهم إنا نسألك من خير هذه الريح وخير ما فيها وخير ما أمرت به، ونعوذ بك من شر هذه الريح وشر ما فيها وشر ما أمرت به. هذا حديث حسن صحيح (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 2252)

Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka’b (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Do not speak ill of the wind. When you see in the wind (or air) what you dislike (e.g. extreme cold climate or extreme hot climate), then recite the following dua:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ هَذِهِ الرِّيحِ وَخَيْرِ مَا فِيهَا وَخَيْرِ مَا أُمِرَتْ بِهِ، وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ هَذِهِ الرِّيحِ وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا وَشَرِّ مَا أُمِرَتْ بِهِ

Duaa Four:

اللَّهُمَّ لَقْحًا لَا عَقِيمًا

O Allah, (let this wind be) a carrier (of rain and goodness), and let it not be barren (void of any goodness)

عن يزيد بن أبي عبيد، قال: سمعت سلمة بن الأكوع، يرفعه إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: كان إذا اشتدت الريح، يقول: اللهم لقحا لا عقيما .(صحيح ابن حبان، الرقم: 1008)

Hazrat Salamah bin Akwa (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that when a severe wind would blow, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would recite the following dua:

اللَّهُمَّ لَقْحًا لَا عَقِيمًا
