Reward for Reciting Each Letter of the Qur’aan Majeed

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasullullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever recites one letter of the Qur’aan Majeed, he will receive one reward, and one reward is multiplied tenfold. I do not say that Alif Laam Meem is one letter, but alif is one letter, laam is one letter, and meem is one letter (i.e. for Alif Laam Meem one receives thirty rewards).”

Commentary

The author of Ihya-uloomid-Deen reports on the authority of Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) that for every letter of the  Qur’aan Majeed recited, there are hundred blessings for the one who recites the Qur’aan Majeed while standing in salaah, fifty blessings for the one who recites it while sitting in salaah, twenty five blessings for the one who recites it in the state of wudhu outside salaah, ten blessings for the one who recites it without wudhu, and one blessing for the one who does not recite it himself but listens eagerly to the reciter. Receiving Seventy Rewards

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported, “Whoever sends salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once, Allah Ta‘ala and His angels will send seventy mercies and blessings upon him in return of his one Durood. Hence, whoever wishes to increase his Durood should increase it, and whoever wishes to decrease his Durood should decrease it (i.e. if he wants to earn great rewards, then he should increase his Durood).”
